OPEN REEF - ΤΟ ΕΙΔΙΚΟ ΦΟΡΟΥΜ ΓΙΑ ΕΝΥΔΡΕΙΑ ΥΦΑΛΩΝ

Εδώ και αρκετό καιρό χρησιμοποιω αυτό το προιόν, και εχω την εξής απορία. O κατασκευαστής προτεινει τον εξής τρόπο χρήσης:

"MPORTANT: You can use as any other carbon, but best results will be obtained by using any carbon for only 3 days per month or so. (This is because any carbon will continue to remove trace elements long after it is totally plugged with organics.)"

Σε ένα οχι ιδιαίτερα φωρτομένο με οργανικά σύστημα είναι αρκετή αυτή η δοσολογία η θα πρέπει να την αυξήσω για να είμαι σίγουρος.

Και παραπάνω να βάλεις δεν θα έχεις πρόβλημα.
Αλλά δεν παίζει ρόλο πόσο φορτωμένο είναι το ενυδρείο άλλα με τι είναι φορτωμένο!!

Tο ενυδρείο έχει κυρίως SPS ,2 perculas , 2 gobies, 1scopas tang , 1 cardinal και cleaning crew και μαζί με sump & refugium είναι 400 λίτρα..
και στο αμεσο μελλον θα μπουν και κάποια extra..
Για να είμαι πιο σαφής , 1 εβδομαδα το μήνα θεωρείται οκ η θα "ρουφάει" πολλά trace ellements???

εγώ άνθρακα έχω μόνιμα μέσα.

This is nonsense I do not know where some dream this up. I know you did not

First, Kent is a poor GAC of choice as it is a VPC (Vapor Phase Carbon) and not a LPC (Liquid Phase Carbon). Thus, is not very efficient. Any GAC will have its highest amount of adsorption in the first few days but it will still continue to adsorb organics. The key here is to remove it once / week and rinse it well in a mess bag and tumble the GAC as you rinse it quite firmly. This will wash out a lot of the mulm and open up new pores and surface area to make it last long, i.e. 1 month and them replace. If GAC is left in to long without cleaning it will go biological and increase NO3-.

Second, the amount of Trace Elements it removes is almost meaningless. Most reef tank that have been assayed, by very advanced methods, show the most have to many trace elements. Normal water changes will replace those needed if they are low. You have to remember that the additives that you add and the food that you add many of these. Then the question arises what is one calling Trace Elements? Meaning, which ones are actually needed for a biological function. Most in this hobby use GAC 24/7 and very high grades of LPC. The benefits of GAC far outweigh and disadvantage it has by a long shot. If one wants to argue this one needs to look at their skimmer as it too is removing TE and more so than a GAC, as the skimmate has seawater in it which has TE in it.
